Oskar Anderson studied economics at university and his dissertation was on variance-difference methods for analysing time series. It was published in Biometrika in 1914 at essentially the same time as Gosset published a similar method.

Anderson left Russia in 1920 and after 4 years in Hungary he held chairs of statistics in Bulgaria, then Kiel and finally Munich. He applied mathematical statistics to economics, using nonparametric methods.
